1. Find Middle C
Middle C (C4) is your reference point. It's usually near the center of the keyboard, often under the piano's brand name.
2. Learn the White Key Pattern
The white keys follow the pattern C-D-E-F-G-A-B and repeat. Notice the groups of 2 and 3 black keys to orient yourself.
3. Understand Black Keys
Black keys are sharps (#) or flats (♭) of adjacent white keys. C# is the same as Db, between C and D.
4. Practice Scales
Start with C major (all white keys), then learn other scales to understand key signatures and note relationships.
